fabric softener dispenser

We have a front loader (417.39012890 manufactured 10/98) that will not dispense fabric softener. Any advice on what to service or replace? Thanks!

remove dispensor drawer remove inserts from drawer and clean well, while drawer is out look into the dispensor assembly at the top are holes the water comes through, make sure they are not plugged with softener residue(clean with toothbrush if neccesary

after that if you still dont dispense softener remove top of washer and turn timer, you should see a black rod move back and forth which shifts a diverter inside the dispensor(the thing with the arrow)  it should move while you turn the timer

post back if you have probs after the cleaning and tell us what you see happen with the lid off
