Estate (Whirlpool) Washer Transmission

OK should the transmission turn freely? if I take the transmission out and turn the (three prong Coupler) by hand should the transmission turn freely and completely around and around or should it stop and hang up?

My problem is when I turn by hand the three prong coupler it turns about a full turn left or right and then seems to freeze up... I'm thinking it should completely spin freely without a load on it but I'm not sure....

Could you post the model number of your washer?

With the transmission removed from the washer you should be able to turn the coupler by hand one direction and see the shaft agitate back and fourth.

Turn it the other direction by hand and you should see the clutch on top the transmission turn in one direction.

My problem is when I turn by hand the three prong coupler it turns about a full turn left or right and then seems to freeze up..

Sounds like you have a bad transmission.
