Whirlpool Direct Driver Washer squeak (Kenmore)

I have a squeak coming from the washer during a wash or rinse cycle. All the cycles work and the spin doesn't seem to be as powerful as before.  It maybe just me, but the clothes seems to be a little soggier than before.  It does go into a slow and high spin, but I'm not sure it's spinning as fast as it should.  What should I do about the squeak and the slower spin issue.  Thanks.

Could be a worn clutch, but do not overlook a worn drive coupling. The rubber can be deteriorated.

Could that be the coupling making the slight squeak?

Out of curiosity...how long do these clutches last on average?  Also, the washer is "heavy-duty"....I never know if I'm overfilling it.  What is the limit?

It could be the coupler making the squeek if the holes on the rubber part have worn it should fit snuggly over the plastic parts. As for the heavy duty thing I defy you to find a washer that doesn't say that. The rule of thumb to tell if your overloaded or not is with the clothes washing they should be being drawn to the bottom of the tub by the agitator if they just sit there moving back and forth on top you have it overloaded. As for the clutches it depend on the amount of use and load sizes on how long they will last.

Well....I did it.

My first washing machine repair.   

They aren't as complicated as I thought they would be to take apart.  Definitely would try something more advance next time.

Also, I noticed the new clutch has 6 pads on it instead of 3.

The clutch looked okay....I wouldn't say a lot of black dust inside it, but a fair amount.  Should I have been able to remove the clutch pad without removing the spring?  After I was done I examined the clutch and I could wiggle the clutch pad out and the squeeze the clutch pad back in.  I would think I shouldn't have been able to do that, right?

They do have kits you can buy. The clutch innards come right out with the squeeze of some pliers. Not by hand though unless you are the hulk
