F&P Appliances Goes to 35-Hour Week to Save Jobs
« on: March 28, 2009, 04:12:51 PM »
Fisher & Paykel Appliances agreed to a temporary 35-hour working week at an Auckland, New Zealand plant to save jobs in the downturn. The company will be one of the first to join the New Zealand government’s nine-day working fortnight plan, gaining a state subsidy to help make up the difference to a 40-hour week.

"This situation has come about by the recent decline of global demand, combined with entering our traditional off-peak manufacturing winter season," chief executive John Bongard said. The arrangements mean "we are able to retain the current staffing levels and avoid immediate redundancies."

About 60 jobs at the Auckland refrigeration assembly plant will be saved as a result of the arrangements, Bongard said. Under the arrangement, the company and the government will make equal contributions to an additional 3.5 hours a week of pay. The remaining 1.5 hours, bringing the total to 40, may be taken as paid leave, F&P Appliance said. Workers will also receive 3.5 hours of in-house training to up their skills.

We did that back in 09 at our plant. One year later, 5400 of us lost or jobs... I blame GM for that one.

And you can't blame Obama for everything. If you're handed a $hit sandwich and have to make it edible, I'm sure it would take at least 8 years...

Remember it's Congress who allocates how much and where money is spent not the Pres. why do you think they have such a bad rating?

I don't have much use for them either!

The bulk of the gov't is under the executive branch.  The bulk of the money spent by gov't is in the executive branch.

If we could dump the executive branch, we'd save a bit of green.

Democrats had full majorities in both the HOUSE and SENATE as well as the OVAL OFFICE for two full years.

No budget (a constitutional requirement)

No bigoted/bad republican to stand in the way of things.

No budget.

ObamaCare/take-over of the health care industry is pushed through without a single republican vote (remember this in the future--when it's working as well as other great gov't programs).

What's it been now??? four years?

NO BUDGET.

Try doing this at home or work---forget balancing the checkbook---keep spending till hell freezes over.

It can't be helped---that some look to the American-versions of "Pravda" or Joseph Goebbel's Ministry of Dis-Information...

If anyone is genuinely (most aren't) interested---here's the correct & truthful information...
