maytag fridge recall
« on: March 27, 2009, 09:31:30 PM »
Any techs out there started the maytag relay /overload rework . I've done about 25 and have another 150 or so to go . Easy rework and comes at a good time , I found even the service end of business has been slow . People are only calling if the absolutely have to .

What is in the kit? Just a new relay and overload? Will Whirlpool and the others follow as I have relays fried in those as well.

Rah what city are you in. I haven't seen any yet (small town). I've done a few before the recall. Business is real slow up here, a lot of GM workers live here.

The rework kit contains 2 overloads ...one fits the 15 ,19 and 21 cuft top mount and the other is for the 24 cu S/S and the 27 cu wide by side . It also has a new relay that fits all of them ,a new cover for the electrical an instruction sheet and a handout for the customer plus one green dot to put on the model # sticker . The actual work takes about 10 minutes but you need another 10 to pull the fridge out and push it back in plus most of them need the condenser vacuumed out. So far every last rework customer has complained about an unrelated issue i.e. handles that have discoloured ,fridges loud , doors not closing right ,dishwasher noisey (can you have a quick look ) etc etc .

I enjoy having a "quick look" at customers other appliances. It's great customer relations and it shows that you care. Elderly people appreciate a repairman that goes the extra mile at no extra charge like they used to do in the old days. I've even sat down and had a piece of pie and coffee, but then I work for myself so I'm not pressured by quota's and time limits.

I enjoy that too but its not like in the old days . Everyone is on a timetable (actually in a hurry) ,telling them morning or afternoon is not good enough . People want 1 hour windows which is next to impossible . I find things have really changed in that respect ...maybe because we let it . I do have calls that need doing so sitting down for a coffee at the customers kitchen is out . Sounds like a hamster on a wheel doesn't it . LOL

My repeat customers Loved the way I would check their oven temperature. Get some pop & fresh biscuits, home made blackberry jam, butter and a first am call. They would make coffee & we would bake the biscuits & have some as we discussed the solution if any needed on the range. After if any parts needed of course they would insist on a complete recheck of the oven. I still use the same way to "TEST" an oven temperature that isn't quite right.
