Maytag Dryer Auto Dry not working

Yes I know this dryer is 28 plus years old.  I have cleaned it entirely.  The timed dry works fine.  Auto Dry stays right were you set it and wont move.  Do I have a bad timer or do I have a bad Thermostat and if bad Tstat, which one is for the auto dry?  Thanks

The timer motor is working so it ain't the timer. Those older dryers had a dryer control board on them. Find this sensor
http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-LDE410-%3d%3di1806&PartID=1806 inside the dryer and clean it real good, it might have some crap built-up on it over the years and now the 2 metal strips cannot detect dryness. With any luck you may not have to buy the sensor board.

The part you need is the cycling thermostat shown below. It is mounted on the front of the blower housing. The other stat is a cool-down thermostat, but since you said the dryer cuts off on Timed Dry, this is likely OK. The stat is shown below and you may click to order:

That joker has two wires on one side and a common on the other. So when the heater is on the timer motor is off. As the clothes get dryer and dryer the heater runs less and less and the timer finally gets to the end. Facinating ain't it. If I am wrong speak up.
