GE Front Load Washer

When my son unpacked / installed the washer, he removed the 4 bolts but not their plastic spacers.  We ran a few cycles with the spacers in place and the machine made a terrible racket.  Well, we discovered the mistake and the machine works great now except sometimes there is a terrible banging during the spin cycle.  I suspect it has something to do with this initial problem - did we ruin the machine, can it be fixed?

I am hoping for some advice before I call the repairman.

Take the screws off that hold down the top panel and slip it off so you can see the damage that may or may not have transpired. You know approximately where the spacers were.

I removed the top panel as well as the access rear panel.  The two springs are attached and the 4 dampers seem to be working OK.  No parts or signs of wear on the inside base of the washer.
There are marks on the side of the cabinet on both sides, approximately 16" from the bottom and 5" from the back where the tub has been hitting the side of the cabinet.

Is this normal or have we been loading the tub incorrectly?

It could be the way you loaded it, but these machines perform better when fully loaded, not partially full.

As long as the 4 struts underneath do not appear damaged where they conncet to the tub and to the floor, you should be OK>
