Kenmore 90 Srs Washer Clicking while Adjitating
« on: March 22, 2009, 10:27:25 AM »
Heres the issue.. At all speeds my washer (slow) clicks while adjitating.. And only while adjitating.. It spins great and everything else functions as it should. Also, while it is "clicking" the lights appear to dim a little.  I even tore it down to check out the coupler and it is fine. I also checked the electrical connections and all of those appear to be good.

It used to just do the clicking on the handwash modes and we thought it was normal. Now it is doing it under all speed modes..just a slow click click click. But after it adjitates it spins and drains great. The knob is not stuck between speeds. That was the first thing I checked. Oh, and the lid mechanism is good as well.

Ive seen people giving advise on fixes from the motor, to the adjitator dogs, to the transmission, and even the timer.. From anyone that has gone through this, what did the trick?

This is likely a centrifugal switch failure within the motor. Subsequent inspection under the switch cover on the motor will likely reveal arcing and pitting of the contacts.

Is there anyway to test for this?

You are right. Repairman may be wrong here.
Sounds like a normal worn out agitator to me.

Oh.. Can the switch just be changed out?  Or is this an internal part requiring the entire motor to be replaced?

Nevermind guys.. It was not the motor, the switch, or the timer.

Any other ideas?

My buddy Larry and me were working on one of them Elite washers that was doing that same thing. We put another motor we had laying around and that motor did the same thing. we determined that something in the controls was the problem but we took it no further and parted it out.

Remember yall when I asked what it meant when a motor would stop and start every second.? I didn't get no response then and I won't now because fellers we is entering into the neutral zone. Unknown territory. Mr Spock what do you make of that phenom? It sucks captain. The motor is constantly going and shutting down every 2 seconds. At this rate we will never make it back to Vulcan fer my annual propagation physical. :D

Yep.. Ended up trading mine in and getting another one from a local appliance shop.  Done deal.  Thanks for all the good ideas.. Sometimes it just makes more sense to swap it out.
