Need some help with this fridge!  Defrosted it about a month or so ago and back to it's old tricks.  Pulled panel inside the freezer compartment and all the coils are covered in ice.  Don't know much about fridges so if you would please be patient.  Off to work now but have it defrosting.

One of your defrost components has failed. There is the timer, the thermostat and the heater itself to check. I usually start by advancing the timer to the defrost cycle (when everything is still frosted up) if the heater starts working then I know the timer is not advancing on its own and needs replacing. If not then it's either the heater or thermostat. Unhook the heater and check for continuity (fridge unplugged) if Ok then it's likely the thermostat. The only way to properly test these is when they are still frozen and again check for continuity.

Ignore the part in the previous about advancing the defrost timer as your model has an electronic defrost (part of the motherboard) Check the heater and thermostat for continuity (remember the thermostat must be tested while still frozen) if they are Ok then you need a new motherboard.

The factory part number for that board is WR55X10656

I seem to replace a lot of these board for defrost problems.

Also this board is located on the back of the refrigerator.

Where is the thermostat and heater located?

They are both attached to the evaporator in the freezer compartment the thermostat is on top and the heater is on the bottom.

Here I am again with my freezer all frozen.  The curious part for me on this issue is why does it take about 3 months for the freezer to freeze up?  would the mother board work this sparodically?
