Whirpool washer lid sensor quesion

I have a whirpool lsr8433kq2 top load washer. It fills with water then will not agitate. Possibly it's a problem with the lid switch or lid sensor? My question is, how does the machine sense the lid is closed? Is it with 2 small round magnets on the lid? If so, could they just be demagnetized?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. I am a single mom with 3 kids. So, my washer is essential. I've been laid off from my job. I'm hoping I can research and possibly fix this myself. I don't have the money for a repair man.

Hi,

The lid switch is located under the control console on the left side.

It's #11 in the diagram.



You should be able to hear the lid switch click on and off as you open and close the lid.

Can you hear the switch click on and off?

Does the motor sound like it's running when it should be agitating or is the washer just dead?

Did you try to advance the timer to the drain or spin cycle to see if the washer would drain or spin?

These are simple washers and easy to repair.

I have seen the arm on the lid (#15) get a little bent out of place on these washers.

When that happens then it will not trip the lid switch when you closed the lid.

All you need to do if that is the case is open the lid, feel inside the rear left corner for the bar and bend it back in place.

Would be a good idea to unplug the washer before trying that, just in case.

If the motor does sound like it's running, but the washer does not agitate after filling then I would check the motor coupler.

Yes, the bar on the right side inside the lid had lost the screws. So, it was no longer attached to the lid. I rescrewed it to the lid. But, the machine still did not start. Where that bar goes inside the machine, it is loose. So, I wonder the bar is connected to whatever it needs to be connected to insed the machine.

Yes, the bar on the right side inside the lid had lost the screws.

It's the hing/bar on the left side that works the lid switch.
The hing on the right side is just a hing and does nothing else.

Does it sound like the motor is running after it fills or is the washer just dead?
