The squeal at the end of the spin cycle is normal on all Performa and Atlantis machines. What makes the sound is a very clean, shiny brake stator coming into contact with the brake rotor. Much like a car, the brakes tend to squeal after a few years. Unless you want to invest in some pretty expensive tools, don't worry about the noise...it will not affect the machine.

The solution to fixing this noise involves dropping the thrust bearing and brake assembly and simply sanding the shine off the  stator. No big deal, unless you don't have the tool.

yeah, squirt some lubricant in there so the brake will slip and spin the tub during agitation. What a concept.

Yeah and when that happens your cloths will get knotted tight around the agitator.

Zoomspout oil is use by HVAC techs as a tried and true lubricant for motors of all sort. And squeaky brake packages. It can be found at any Ace hardware store fer a cupla bucks. And by the way I was not insinuatin you splash enough on there to improve yer luvlife. Just a tad will do it.

You are not supposed to put any oil on these brakes it operates optimumly in a dry state . The manufacturer recomends sprinkling a little corn starch on them to keep them quiet.

After hurricane Katrina their were many of these machines underwater. If allowed to dry out they were sometimes repairable. A little rust buster and zoomoil PLUS the special tool mentioned by our illustrious tech RM would get the brake freed up. I got a plenty of them going that way and never did get any complaints about any squeaking. Now if I could just get my roof to stop leaking...
