Maytag top load washer leaking
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:57:35 PM »
My Maytag top load washer is leaking. I have determined that the leak is originating from the tub seal. I have removed the inner tub and reached the spacer nut. I realize that I have to have a Special Spanner Wrench to remove this. My question is which seal repair kit do I need? I have looked at two for this model, ap4112693 & ap4260930, and am unsure as to which one would fix my problem. Also, should the bearing be replaced, and if so, what part number would that be. Thanks for your help.

The correct kit for your Maytag is the 12002140 shown below from RepairClinic. It contains the seal, bearing and fairly good instructions. And no, we don't use a pipe to make repairs like this unless you want to damage something else. You need the  spanner wrench and the hub tool to remove and install the triple lip seal properly.

Repairman, I belive you might be mistaken.  That seal kit you have posted is for an Atlantis Washer. For the SAV205DAWW, you need either, w10116791 till series 14, 14 or after needs seal kit W10116790.  On this particular machine, depending on how much water, and how long it has been leaking, the Main Bearing in the Milk Stool assy. part # 40004001 may need to be changed. For as complex as this seal is to change, I always change out the main bearing, ever since the first one that I found out had one after i put it all back together :tickedoff:...  and on that note, if you do take on this project, make sure you use the glue it says to use in the directions, or you may be sorry ;)

oh man...You have the right part number Repairman, but i think the picture is wrong, thats what threw me off :D---that doesn't look like a triple lip seal kit, looks like a Atlantis or Performa Seal kit

Let's see now, how many triple lip seals have I changed out under warranty?  possibly 300 or more?

The picture might not do it justice, but I know my Maytags :)

There's no glue involved, either, but you better put those little black plugs in the tub holes or sand will penetrate the new seal soon.

RM have you got a page showing step by step how to change that seal the proper way?

If I make one, I will charge for it :)

When you buy the seal kit, there's an excellent set of instructions contained within.

That would be well worth the money. Maytag repairmen are kinda iffy on giving out repair info. What makes you want to give so much of your time?
