Is appliance repair a good career choice?
« on: March 02, 2009, 02:35:13 PM »
How does someone just graduating from high school get started in appliance repair?

What can a new appliance repair technician expect to make his first year?

If your a appliance technician now and had a chance to start over would you pick a different career or would you stick with appliance repair?

There are many good trade schools around as well as many "Moneymakers" research and ask questions.
As far as myself I started over forty years ago and never regret one day of it. True there are ups and downs, but when a customer says Thank You be it in person or here on the forum, you get that warm fuzzy feeling.  ;)

What you need to do is go to a state technical school and get a pell grant. Now is the time to get into the biz because technology is changing the way we cook our food clean our clothes and control the temperature of our homes. I know guys that only after a short time in tech school were hire right out of the class room to work day and go to school at night. The School will work a schedule in for you. They will loan you money and you will get paid while learning and it won't be a crappy asz washer college which promises wishy washy PC jobs and nurses aid training. A real honest to goodness trade school! Now is the time my friend.

What kind of work can you get by starting with basic electricity?

Is this something I would just learn in a appliance school or something I need to learn before going to school for appliance repair?

Go to the library and see if they have a copy of the book Modern heating and air conditioning or buy a used copy for $5 online. It will be the best money you ever spent:
