Amana Washer very noisy during spin cycle

I have an Amana washer that is about 9 or 10 years old - the Model # is LWA50AW.

It has started to get very noisy during the spin cycle.  It it not off balance, and still spins the water out of the clothes, and the tub does not appear to be leaking.

I tried to do some trouble shooting on the internet but it looks like it could be pretty involved -from a new belt, or replacing brake pads, to the pulley and something called the Helix?  

Is this something we could order parts for and try to repair ourselves?  I really like the washer because it has a big tub, but also don't want to invest more than $150 to $200 into it.  I also suspect that the repair will require a true professional. Any insight that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Any idea what this repair might cost - estimate of parts & labor?

This will be the tub bearing and seal kit. Parts are under $100, but the labor will be anywhere from $150 to $200 depending on  who you find.

You won't be doing this one yourself.

I have the exact same problem with this washer. I replaced the belt, which was in very bad shape, but it is still noisy. No way is it worth spending $250 or more to repair this washer, but how long can I reasonably expect to be able to use the washer before the bearing is completely shot? Also, is there anything I can do to prolong this washer's life (other than not using it :-))

What will happen next is the bad bearing will cause the new belt to be shredded again soon. The bearing will not only get louder and louder, it will eventually freeze up completely in a few weeks. Not only that, but water has probably permeated the transmission by this time, so you should thank your stars you only spent money for a belt and start shopping.
