Frigidaire Chest Freezer

When I plug it in I get arcing at the outlet and the breaker trips.  I assume I have a bad compressor or something.  I know this freezer was pretty cheap, but it didn't last much more than a year.  I hate have to buy another one.  Anyway I can fix this myself?  Any troubleshooting I can do to help you help me?  I have a multimeter and I'm quite capable with it.

Side question.  Can deep freezers handle being in a garage, where it is subject to temps from -5 degrees F to +85 degrees F?  Or are certain brands/models made to handle this, just not this Frigidaire?  I'm not sure what made this thing croak, but my guess is being outside???

get the compressor relay off and check the wires.

so basically, disconnect the compressor from the circuit, to make sure it's not the wires are shorted?

Dang near every compressor has to have a relay to get it going. Over time they get brittle and fall apart exposing bare wires and causing shorts
