Yes sir, that's the one that keeps blowing.

And I honestly WISH the vent looked like that, then I might have some explanation for why it keeps blowing.  :(

Thanks for your time,

How long is your vent and how many bends does it have?

You is gonna have to unclog that vent. Just an itty bitty bit of crap in there is all it takes.

The vent duct is about 3' long and has two 90-degree elbows on it, one immediately after the dryer outlet, and one immediately before the exterior vent assembly that goes through the exterior wall.

That rules out a too long vent. Did you check the blower to see if it was loose or slipping?

When I had the lint chute off for cleaning, I spun it to see if it had any dirt buildup within its fins, and it seemed to spin okay.  But I can certainly check again-- anything to keep from trashing this unit and buying a new one.

Thanks as always for your help.

Did you replace the Hi-limit t-stat as well as the thermal cut off?
If not you should.

The larger limit at the base is supposed to trip at 250f the smaller one trips at 300f
If the smaller one on top is tripping that means the bigger one on bottom is bad also.

Have you tested the operating temp of the unit? It could also be the operating thermostat that is allowing it to overheat.
