Maytag Neptune Electric Dryer- Another Problem!
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:46:56 AM »
Hi all,

I brought a Neptune washer/dryer combo about 2 years ago, and had nothing but problems with both the washer and the dryer. My current problem is with the dryer and I hope someone here may be able to help me before I spend another $100 on a service call.

The dryer will not start. The front panel LED will light up, the chime works, but the dryer will not run. When you try to start it, you can hear the relay closing and opening, but no go. I checked the error codes and there was an error code 10 appearing which is defined as "No Wet Clothes", the trigger is "Sensor bar detects no wet clothes in sensor dry cycle" and the action to be taken is "Check for: running dryer with no wet clothes in sensor dry cycle".

So it appears there is something wrong with the sensor bar, right? I cleared the code, and tried to turn it on with a cycle that does not use the sensor bar, and it still doesn't work.

I am at a loss here. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be - other than an outright motor failure? IS there a circuit breaker or fuse somewhere on the machine that might have blown?

Thanks a million!!!

Probably blew a simple thermal fuse. I will also bet that someone put foil duct on the dryer.

The manual for this dryer is HERE for your perusal. The thermal fuse and other parts can be checked.

WOW, thank you so much for the quick reply! O0

I don't have a foil duct, it is one of those expensive aluminum ones.

I have the service manual that you linked to. Where about is the thermal fuse? Would it be in the heater assembly? The manual mentions a thermal cut off, but no mention of where it is located.

Thanks again!

Put your reading glasses on and read page 20 of the aforementioned manual  :)

Thanks, I see it now.

I should mention that when I did the diagnostic check and the sensor bar code came up, I did a further diagnostic check. I read in the manual that a code 1 will mean sensor bar short and a code 0 will mean sensor bar open. Mine is currently showing 0.

I'm assuming the sensor bar shorts as the clothes get drier?

Either way, I am going to check the thermal fuse to see what resistance I get.

Thanks

While disassembling the dryer, I noticed the top control board motor relay. It has some corrosion on one of the pins and the relay housing appears to have some minor melting around the area of the corroded pin.

What would cause this problem? The control board cost about $250 to replace, so I would like to determine the cause of the relay failing before I spent the money.

Thanks
