Freeze 12

How compatible is Freeze 12 with Hermatic Systems? I know that 134a conversion in closed systems is a no no, but how about the synthetic R12?
Sure don't want to be buyin someone a new Freezer or Window A/C unit
because the old piece of junk has failed and should have been the junkyard

Freeze 12 is good on old ice boxs and freezers. I wouldn't put it in a car though I hear it has butane in it ain't sure about that. R134a is the best thang since swiss cheeze on any damn old ice box or freezer my opinion. They say the oil must be drained bla bla bla an azeotrophic whatever will FU a system bla bla bla. You know what BS BS BS.

It's basically 134a with a couple of extra ingredients:


134a: 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane
Freeze12: 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane, 1-Chloro 1,1-Difluoroethane

You might have been thinking of Hot Shot, which contains Isobutane.

I have some mp66 in my shop I use in ice boxes. It is supposed to be good in walkin coolers and field refrigeration for the army, would you use it in cars?

MP-39 for R-12 High to Medium Temperature, MP-66 for R-12 Low Temperature.
Hot-Shot not accepted by Tecumseh or Copeland  . Had to eat a compressor because of that crap.

When the compressor dies after a refrigerant change over is done it is not the refrigerant but the combination of the refrigerant and oil in the system that spells trouble. This happens because the oil not being miscible with the refrigerant can starve the crank or slug the compressor valves. These  effects are more evident in low temp systems.

Thank you Everyone, I use to do this type work 30yrs ago it was cut & dye,
R22 or R12 in most window units and freezer/refrig. Now there are so much
different stuff out there. When I was re certifying, the instructor was telling us that it is not recommended to do 134 conversion on small hermetic
system (OK in none sealed systems like automotive) because the cannot be
removed. There have been several theories of oil compatiblity with 134 some
say OK, some say NO-NO. I'm not going to convert, I was just asking if Freeze 12 was suitable to top off or charge over existing oil in these small
systems, because I didn't want to break my teeth on a compressor. I am
not going to stock a bunch of different refrigerant, 12,22,134 only, I'm a
small town repairman, if I run into anything else I send them to the big city.
FYI, after considerable research I found that Freeze 12 is compatible with
the oil in R12 systems and blends with the R12, it requires 90% of the charge recommended for R12. They recommend that the existing R12 be removed, when possible and recharging with total Freeze 12 because of the different dymanics of the gases. Thanks again

There is a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers of "Freeze 12", because unlike their claim it has a poor oil return.
This is what causes compressor failures. 
This along with the fact of moisture problems is why the compressor manufacturers will not recognize it.

Most of the time  the dang gas is gone or real low right. So I always pull out the remaining gas and  reclaim it in my recovery machine. Even if I don't feel like any is in there I still pump down the old ice box and reclaim the refrigerant remaining. When I have 0 pressure on the gauge I pull a good vacuum  till I get as close to -30 as possible. Then I shut it down and watch it for a few hours to see if it loses vacuum. If it holds I recharge. I think most folks don't take the time to do it right.
