New upright freezer

Purchased new 20 cu. ft. freezer two days ago.  Plugged in for 12 hours before loading with solidly frozen food yesterday a.m.  Closed door after loading and has remained closed thereafter.  Unit is located in my kitchen with proper space allowed all around installation.  The unit has run non-stop for 24 hours now (I was working in the kitchen all night).  Is this normal or could there be a problem with this unit?  Thank You!

Does the freezer have a Qick Freeze option selected?
If so, it will run 48 hours non-stop.

No, I did not set it to the Quick Freeze function since all the food was completely frozen.

What temp control number are you set at and what are your options? eg; 1-5?
Is your freezer fan running?

I have decided to take this back to the merchant.  It is definitely something wrong.  There is a burnt smell coming from the compressor and I opened the door to check the thermometer that I placed inside and it is registering -14 even though the digital display on the outside of the door still reads 0.  Thank you for your responses!
