Whirpool won't spin

hi
i am a NEWBIE my first Question
we have a older whirpool looks like model # LA6900XK1
2 speed 4 cycle majic clean filter super capacity

lately it has had spinning issues, one time the clothes still had a bit of excess water then yesterday we smelled burning rubber looked at the washer and it was not spinning at all hubby got it to spin messing with it BUT ? is it maybe a belt??
don't have a clue but sure hope it is not a major project!

i am a newbie here with my first Question
we have a older whirpool washer which has been having problems lately with the spin cycle a couple of times during the spin cycle we noticed there was excess water.
then last night i smelled burning rubber in the house ran back to check the washer and it was not spinning!? could this be a belt issue? i know nothing about this we are having someone come over to help my husband move the washer But they i know are clueless as to who/what/where etc!!!!  and how to remove i appreciate any help in this repair!  hopefully they can do it!

Your washer is very old.
Check your belt.
You really should invest in a new Whirlpool washer.

The pump will lock up on the belt take the belt loose and try to turn the pump before the belt gets burnt in 2.

It has been so long since I worked on a belt drive Whirlpool I for got about those pumps locking up.

should i not even mess with this (age) and invest in a new washer?

seems maybe once this is fixed it will have problems elsewhere!?

Get yourself a direct drive Whirlpool machine.

For a $12 belt you can likely have a machine that will still run for awhile. Lean it back and follow the belt along to see if maybe the pump pulley froze up or the belt has a  rough spot. It's no big deal to change and the instructions are on the package of the 95405 belt kit.

This machine is superior to the direct drive in many aspects so hold onto it as long as possible! The belt drive Whirlpool manual is here someplace.

If you go to put a belt on a good trick to know is to turn the main pully till the wigwag drops the basket to the lowest point so you can easily remove pin and slip the belt in.
