Water inlet to ice maker leaking
« on: February 01, 2009, 05:46:23 PM »
I have a frigidaire (Model FRT18IL6DS4) that was causing me problems (frozen ice maker tube) so I started prodding around and found out that the tube coming from my water supply was leaking at the copper coupling (not sure if that is what it is called). So I went out and purchased a new one and replace it and now it is leaking even more whenever the water is turned on.  What do I do to stop the leaking? I took off the water inlet (not sure if thats what it is called, it is blue and has a power chord attached) and warmed it in case it was also frozen. help!

did you say you replaced that blue thingy?(water valve)The problem ain't with the tube it is with the valve leaking like a water faucet. It forms a stalagmite in the fill tube.

I replaced the brass coupling that connects water from the main line to the blue thingy (water valve). Should I replace the water valve then? thanks for your help

the new friggy water valves are poor quality
i was having problems with the inlet stripping out of the valve body before the brass compression fitting on the copper line sealed
i have since gone to using the plastic ferrule on the copper line instead of a brass one to stop this problem

Not worried about that coming apart later on and leaking?

i was never a fan of the plastic ferrule, but after stripping out 2 valves in a row on the same fridge i had little choice
i've been seeing them used on alot of fridges i have disconnected that were leak free
i guess only time will tell
