whirlpool won't agitate

My whirlpool washer M/N LSB6400KQ1 will not agitate.  It will fill then just makes a humming noise during the agitate cycle.  If I put it in the spin cycle it will spin just fine and drain the water out.  I checked the agitator every thing looks fine, the dogs have teeth.  So I left the agitator off and retried it.  It filled then the shaft did not move at all in the agitate cycle.  I reached in and could spin the shaft both ways (but there was a fair amount of resistance) and still just heard the hum.  Still spun and drained.  I read a couple other posts and suspect it is either something in the coupler or motor area but thought I would ask an expert before just doing swap central trouble shooting.  any advise would be greatly appreciated.

well you need to check the pump for sand or coin. If it will spin and don't leak and nothing is in the pump then it must have an issue with the timer. It is the timer that reverses polarity on the motor to get it to go counterclockwise and agitate.
Take the timer out of its quick connect and check the pins for corrosion.
