washer making terrible racket

(1/1)

TracyFagan:
I have the frigidare stack washer and dryer unit..I just bought a new belt for the washer cause the old one came off and broke, the washer would make a terrible racket when in the spin cycle, so after replacing the belt , well now the belt wont stay on and the washer is making terrible noises in the spin cycles, sounds like a bearing going or gone bad... in the type washer it looks as if it wouldnt be worth fixing ... am I right or is there something else I can check before trashing this whole unit?? :-\

Model FWT647GHS0

apptech:
What is the model number?
What is the part number of the belt you put on?

TracyFagan:
I know we got the right belt we doubble checked it from the appliance store when we bought it and the numbers matched up on the old belt.. the model number is FWT647GHSO...the new belt is tight , it just makes a terrible noise, my father was here tonight and said the berrings are gone and it really wobbles alot when in the spin cycle, while running it to show my dad (old appliance tech) he heard it and then the belt flew off again from the wobbleing..

AJ:
I looked up your model number and seen this is a front load washer.

Yep, sounds like your father is correct.
You can remove the belt and give the tub a spin by hand.
Often times when the bearings are bad you can hear the noise even when spinning the tub by hand. At higher speeds, such as in the spin cycle they really make the noise.

How old is the washer?

AJ:
To repair the bearing you will need to replace the rear outer tub.
The tub bearing is factory installed in the outer tub and can not be replaced as a separate part.

Here is the part you would need to repair the bearing.
