Older Plastioc top whirlpool Washer

Hello, I have an older Whirlpool washer that recenly stopped agitating on the wash and rinse cycles. As I began to check it out I found oddly enough it DOES agitate when there are clothes with no water in it! I did not test completely empty.

This is not a large capacity washer it is a top loader and somewhat small. It has a plastic top. I can find no model number on it , and I suspect it to be from the late 80s . I bought it used and have used it for years.  Most probably the model is unique to Mexico or Latin America.

I forgot to mention this washer has a belt on bottom, so I assume it is not direct drive. Other modes Spin , fill drain, etc seem fine. The washer WILL agitate when there is no water in it (only loaded with clothes) and I move the dial to wash. After filling with water however it will not agitate under any circumstances!

check your Water Level Switch.

usually a Vacuum Hose Pressure Switch located behind the Control panel.

Thank you for your repluy. I suspected that this was a pressure switch and as the tub fills with water that the transparent hose builds up pressure and it triggers the pressure switch, but I think you have now confirmed this

ON this model, this is integrated with the water level switch.



While I am in this think how do I diagnose a leak? I have let the unit leak then turned it over looking for signs of moisture and I find none.
