I love my washer!

But recently I've noticed alot of mildew smells,

and although I've cleaned where I can get to it, I wonder if this could be why it has suddenly stopped filling?
Model 40412 WasherI put a blanket in last night to wash and I put the detergent in the drawer. It went through the cycles, but the blanket was still dirty this morning, and the detergent was still on it. Only a trickle of water had gone through. When I tried to run the cycle again, I could see only a trickle of water. HELP. I can't afford Sears' handyman prices unless it gets down to drastic measures. Is there a way to check from where the water comes in to where goes in to the tub so I can maybe clear it? I am very handy with tools, and with some sort of instructions or diagrams I can easily fix it.
Or is there a pump that actually assists the water pressure in the filling process? I don't remember ever hearing a pump running during the FILL process. I assumed that water pressure alone was what did that.
I haven't got a schematics or diagram, and I need to try the least expensive way first.
Thank you!
Nancy
