I have a bad clutch and I want to replace.  Need help in directing the repair.

There are lots of parts involved in the GE clutch for that old thing. It's not a matter of directing the repair on a complicated issue.

There is still available a GE washer manual on the repair clinic website that will instruct you how to replace the clutch parts as needed. It is their part # 2444.

Your washer has a 2 speed clutch on it. But it could work just as well with a single speed clutch and that would be easier to deal with. But basically you sit the motor and clutch on the bench. Get a puller and remove the drive after you have knocked out the pin. You get a couple of nails and drive them down into the top to release the outer brake and remove the outer cover. (If you wish to replace the clutch you get the u bolt off and use some rust buster to help free the clutch from the motor shaft. Being careful not to mess the motor up. This is dang near impossible.) You want the motor unharmed remember.
However, the shoes are like 50 bucks(can you believe they used to be cheap) and very easy to replace. Once you get the inner cover off they are right there. Be sure to put the washers where they go over and under the twin fork.
