Washer only agitates and spins in delicate mode

Washer will not agitate or spin in normal or perm press cycle.  Works fine in delicate.  Replaced motor assembly, no change. Water fills in normal but motor will not run. Is there a way to check the timer?

You pretty much proved the timer bad the hard way...with a new motor.

If it works on delicate yet not on another cycle, replace the timer.

Yours is a 22001829...good luck finding one.

Thanks for your response.  The timer is not advanced technology, it checks out with an ohm meter as being good.  That is why I suspected the motor switch.  I could not buy a switch separate so ended up with the entire motor for about the same price.  I don't want to buy a $110 timer only to find out it is some other switch.  I usually throw washers away at the first failure, should have done it this time also.

Actually, checking a timer with an OHM meter is not the same as checking it under a load. Had you asked first, maybe we could have saved you  some grief.

That Maytag was one of the best machines they made. Timers fail.

OK, I will let you know tomorrow night if a new timer fixed it.  Then I will have approx $200 invested in a 10 year old washer.  Thanks for your help.
