Maytag Washer is leaking

Your remove the agitator and then there is a nut you just get a small pipe wrench and bump it around till it comes off then the seal will be right there. You get it out replace it with the new seal and replace the nut with a new one that comes in the kit and then put the agitator back. It is pretty simple.

Just going through this myself.

I'm having trouble getting the nut off. One place says it comes off "counter clockwise" and another says it's left hand and comes off "clockwise".

And can I make the replacement without getting the spanner wrench? Assuming I ever get the old one off.

If the seal is bad may want to do the bearing as well as it will fail soon. Water over the bearing will separate the lubricant & cause the bearing to fail.

Originally, I added my question to the another topic since I thought it closely related. Big mistake.

Turns out the LAT2300AA is quite different.

To replace the tub seal, the outer tub does not have to be removed. I had followed general instructions and fought with removing heavy springs, hoses, and clamps.

For this model, only the inner tub needs to be removed. Seal lifts off center part of outer tub that forms a vertical tube in the tub. No need to remove the outer tub.

As for replacing the bearing, it's all back together right now. It would have been simple when it I had it apart, but I won't go near those springs again unless I have to. I'm sure there's a way to do it but I did it the hard way.

For those massive tub springs found on many Maytag top-loaders, a simple way to remove them is by taking an ordinary metal switchbox and inserting it between the stretched coils. I do this by flexing the washer tub way over to the front of the machine, removing the right rear spring first. With the box inserted in the coils, the tub can be pushed back toward the spring to unhook it. Leave the box on the spring and use another box to remove the left rear spring. The front spring will remove by hand once the other two are off. Sure makes life easier on a tough job, and saves money from buying expensive spring tools!
