Drum squeek and no heat

We bought the dryer used and have had it for a few years so it may be time to replace.  On the other hand it, if its fixable I'd love to keep it running.  The drum squeaks when spinning and the heat isn't working.  Both conditions have happened in the past, seemingly fixed themselves, and are back again.  The heat came back on for a while after switching the Extra Care dial back and forth but that isn't working this time.  Not sure what quieted the squeak for awhile but its back as well.  Is there a suggested starting point for troubleshooting?

Far as the heat issue it might just be a burnt contact
in the timer that needs to be filed down.

Thanks for the reply JW.  I'll check out the diagrams and try to open the dryer up after work tonight to see if I can find the contacts and the bearing. 

For the bearing, I think I'm looking for part #543 on this diagram:

Yeah 543  WE3X75 is the GE part number and it is sold seperately from the entire kit which is considerably more money.

Found the problem for no heat.  One of the red wires going into the timer dial is pretty badly burned.  The contact in the timer is very loose so looks like I'll need a timer. 

How difficult is it to switch out the bearning?  Do I need to pull the drum?

If it works as planned this post should include a picture of the burned wire. 

Do I need to pull the drum to swap out the bearing?  If so, I may call it quits on this one.

It is not very difficult you remove the screws holding down the top. Then raise the top and remove the screws holding the front on. Then yank the drum out. NOTE some dryers have an E clip others simply lift up and out still others just slide on out.
