Maytag dryer heats up intermittantly.

Dryer seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to drying clothes.  It seems to only heat up intermittantly, sometimes it works fine for a full cycle and sometimes it will take forever to heat up.  All the ductwork is clean and the vent is directly out the back of unit. The blower seems to be working fine. I took the front cover off and noticed the ignitor glowing but no flame. Continued to watch and the ignitor cycled off and then came back on, this time the burner ignited and burned for approx. 30 seconds and shut off. Continued to watch and the ignitor came back on but burner never came on.  Continued to watch and the ignitor came back on, this time I tapped on the gas valve coils and the burner came on and seemed to operate properly for a full cycle.  I am thinking the problem has something to do with the gas coils but would hate to change them if I'm wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.   Thanks

You can feel how they they get if they are going bad. OSG is right. Replace the coils. It is an easy no brainer repair. You cannot screw it up. No wiring to do.

Minor wiring actually.
Change one coil at a time and replace the wire.
One has 2 wires, the other 3 wires all in a quick disconnect plug.

Thanks for the good advice.  I ordered the gas valve coils (Part number was given on this site) and dryer seems to be working fine.
Repair was as easy as it gets.  Thanks.
