Kenmore Washer not working correctly

Washer works all cycles on Permanent Press setting, but on regular setting it only fills up, then quits.

Does this washer only have two cycles, regular and permanent press?

After it fills up on the regular cycle does it make any noise, like a motor humming?

If the washer works on all cycles, but the regular cycle and it does not make any noise after it fill try moving the timer knob around (up, down, right, left) when the washer is on to see if it kicks in and starts running.

You may have a bad timer.

If the washer starts running after you wiggle the timer knob around then there is no doubt that the timer will need to be replaced.

Yes, the washer only has the regular and permanent press cycles.

After it fills up on the regular cycle,it DOES NOT make any noise. It just sits there and mocks me.

I tried moving the dial, even attempting to start it in agitate and rinse cycles. It refuses to operate.

However, it works fine in permanent press mode. It fills, agitates, drains, refills, rinses, etc.

If the timer is the problem, is this something only the pros should deal with?

Sounds like a problem with the timer.

If you can unplug the washer and turn a turn a screw drive you should have no problem replacing the timer.
