Whirlpool washer agitates but stop on drain cycle

I have a Whirlpool LSN2000JT1 washer that agitates but does a complete stop on drain cycle on all positions on the dial.

I guess from what I can see the pump is driven by the main motor and this does a complete stop that most likely it's not the pump. I'm guessing that it's the timer and/or what ever senses the water level. What do you think is the problem and how would I test for the problem.?

Currently the washer has water in it. Do I need to drain it and how.?

Sounds like what you have there is a washer with a bad lid switch.

As you open and close the washer lid you should be able to hear the lid switch click on and off.

The washer will not drain or spin with the lid open and with a bad lid switch your washer will act as if the lid is open even when it is closed.

You can check the switch with a ohm meter or just by opening and closing the lid to listen for the clicking sound of it working.

The switch is working... What happened is the 2 places where the screws go in to the switch were broken. The switch wasn't in the correct position for the cover to make it work.

Did you have to replace the switch then to repair it?

I see a lot of these switches break were the screws go in to the body of the switch.

We always replace the switch with a new one as there is nothing to screw into any more on the old switch.

For now I have it taped down so it works until I can get a new one. I didn't have time to order one today but I see I can get a new one on eBay for $6.95 and $5.99 shipping, the local parts store wanted $30.00.
