If you hear the pump running, it or the drain lines are plugged. First though remove the drain hose from where it attaches to the drain put it in a bucket and cancel/drain the dishwasher. If water comes out at agood flow then the blockage is ussually where it hooks up to the drain (jam a screwdriver in to clear it) If not the pump or lines are plugged or the pump isn't worrking at all.

Make sure the knockout plug is completely removed from the disposal also. This can cause a clog over time.

I'm sure Mr. Capone will make the necessary arrangements with the model #. Your dishwasher manual is here, should you decide to conquer the beast.

I disconnected the dishwasher line from the sink drain and drained the machine. The pump sounded like it was running and was quiet. There was a small steady stream of waste water coming from the dishwasher, but not nearly what I would expect. So I think the pump is working. My bet is that the intake is blocked. How do I check that? Thanks, looking forward to big Al's post.

Here's my dilemma on this. As a former Maytag field tech, I would find many cases where the installer kinked the drain hose ever so slightly behind the unit when pushing it back or whatever. Even though the unit drains, it is obviously not draining fast enough. In the past, I have found a kink  behind the unit which has been collecting solids as they pass thru over the past year. Once these build up to  a point, the pump cannot force the water out very strongly. I would  un-install the unit and  inspect the entire length of the drain hose. The drain pumps on this model are not usually problematic, and the manual I provided you with will show you how to access the upper intake. You do remember I provided you the manual , right? Don't make me smile, now.
