Maytag by Performa washer, Outta balance during spin cycles

Hey guys,
I have a fairly old Maytag by Performa that almost everysingle time the washer is in its spin cycle, it gets off balance.  I have been very careful to balance the load, not to overload either.  It seems to be very bad now.  Any ideas what it might be and could a rookie repair it?  TIA guys.......

Here is the model number off the washer.  PAV2200AWW  Rev. 10

A friend told me that if you can push the drum to one side or the other and it sticks and does not go back to center, that the springs down below just need lubricating?  Any info would be appreciated.  TIA

Geez, I hate to be a downer, but you are facing a new snubber ring under the transmission to help keep this unit stable again. Additionally, if there are any signs of oil leaking from the lower seal, it will show up on the snubber area. If no oil is present, only the snubber needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, 2 special tools are required just to perform this task, so many people opt to have this job perfomed by equipped technicians. It does not make sense to spend $125 on just a couple of tools only to replace a cheap part that you might never use the tools for again. The Performa manual is here somewhere if you want to read up on the procedure.

I have had the washer for quite some time, it may be time for a new one.  Lubricating will not help much huh?

Lubricating will only make it worse.

The idea is to keep the area as dry as possible. That ring is made of Delrin, which is a polymer containing Teflon. When the machine is assembled, the factory sprinkles a handful of corn starch around the base where the snubber ring sits to maintain dryness. That is the only lubricant needed after the snubber is replaced. Nothing short of a new ring will help.
