Maytag Refrigerator no water and top of freezer is warm
« on: January 11, 2009, 08:15:09 AM »
I was out of town for several weeks and when I returned all my ice had melted out of my ice bin and reformed into stalagtites at bottom of my freezer. The top of the freezer is warm and the bottom frozen, also the water does not flow to either the ice tray or water dispenser. I checked the water supply line and it has water and sufficient pressure.

Check the evaporator fan motor in the freezer. Is it running?
Check the fan motor at the compressor. Is it running?

There is "A" fan running, not sure if it is evaporator or compressor, also the fridge side seems to be working fine...Im thinking it is ome kind of damper issue combined with water valve being locked out for some reason

Well if you have a fan running then it ain't stuck in defrost. Maybe a relay on your compressor is shot. Take it off and examine it. Let us know.

If there is a light in your freezer, unscrew the bulb and check your temp in the freezer with a thermometer.
Then report your findings.

Usually this means the icemaker is jammed in the harvest mode. Feel the underside to see if it is hot.

At this point, remove the screw under the icemaker and loosen the top 2 so you can lift it out. Once free of the 2 screws, unplug it and seek a replacement soon. A good part number to use is D7824706Q from the parts lookup.

The freezer should resume normal cooling until you replace the icemaker.

you could hit it with a hairdryer till the stuck ice cube melts and see if it will travel around and start working again.

there are no stuck ice cubes as it is way to warm at top of freezer where icemaker is located.

Would this problem also prevent water valve from working...I still have no water flowing to water dispensor.

JW likes wild-assed guesses, so I'm going to try my hand at it... :)

Let's say just for grins that the icemaker jammed in the harvest/fill cycle, causing the water valve to run on for quite a bit. This is evidenced  by your first post where you commented on the stalagmites.

My guess is that the water valve or the filtration valve might have also been affected and need replacing. Again, I am new to the guessing thing so forgive me if I am dead wrong ....

I'm having the same issue with my Maytag (MSD2650HEW)........except the bottom of the icemaker is not warm, and the only fan I hear blowing is the one under the fridge next to the compressor.

Any idea what I can do to get it running right?

Please be patient. We are all volunteers and help answer question when we have time.

I'm going to lock this topic so we can post everything under your new topic instead of this old topic that belongs to someone else, but to answer your question here the evaporator fan is located in the freezer section of your refrigerator.

Thanks for understanding and posting.

Hope you find our site helpful.
