Good news, after calling around I found the overload and run cap locally and surprisingly cheap - $30 for everything and it was in stock (I know, I was shocked too).  Replaced the parts and the compressor fired right up.  It's been running fine for 4 days now.  The mother-in-law is happy.  Thanks for everyone's help!

Spoke too soon.  Compressor started acting up again.  Called in for warranty, there will be a diag charge and labour cost, parts are covered by warranty if it's the compressor.  Oh goody.
