Kenmore dryer door won't shut!
« on: November 18, 2007, 10:43:26 AM »
I have to prop a kitchen chair up against the door to keep it shut! Any ideas how I can fix this? Apparently it can't handle me putting a big pile of clothes on it (I'm guessing that is what happened, not that I really do that normally).

This isn't an old washer, probably less than a year old!

Thanks!

The model is 110.67622600

This a washer or dryer??  lol....looking at the breakdwon guessing either the hinges have gotten bent from too much weight being put onto the door when it was open or your door catch might be broken, see if the white plastic door closer on the top inside of the door catches onto the gold colored latch that is at the top part of the dryer door ooening, if either one of these are damaged you would replace both as they come as a kit..

Another thing to check would be the inner door.

Often times I find these type of doors get bent out of shape.

If you open the door and look at the corners were the hings screw to the inner door you may notice the inner door is a little bowed out there.

Many times I can take a large flate blade screwdriver put it in the slot of the inner door liner and bend it back into shape.

Thanks for the replies!  I just looked.  The little white hole thing on the door goes onto the metal thing sticking out from the dryer, but pops right back out.  Does that help narrow things down a little?  (you can tell I am mechanically retarded!!!!)

Either that white plastic latch is broken or the door hinges are spring at the bottom of the door...

In the attachment below look for #47, inner door panel.

This may not be the problem, but as a tech having replaced hinges once and the door would still not stay closed until I fixed the innner door, it's something I always look at first now. :)

Just something that is easy to check.

Let us know what you find..

I replaced latch kit but it is still not closing. After closer look, the hinges are bent forward, then I remembered once my kid sat and jumped on the dryer door while opened. I took a hammer and hit the door hinges so that the bent went inwards. Now the door closes normally. I almost decided to go with velcro hook and loop fastner or a magnet solution but glad I looked into it closer. Always doubt kids when things break in the house, they have some innocent role in it.
