MayTag not draining
« on: January 06, 2009, 09:50:47 AM »
The washing machine seem to be working through the cycles, but it not draining. Here what I do know. The motor is running, the pump is spinning. I try it by hand, and see the belt turning the pump. In the spin cycle it will not drain the water. Does not pump out at the end of the washing cycle. . Looking for suggestion? Question: pump is alway going in counter-clockwise motion.

Thanks

The motor turns one way to wash, the other to drain and spin. See the Dependable Care manual.

Thanks for the reply. Have check both hoses for kinks and they are fine. Pull off hoses to make sure nothing clogging in the hoses. As I been look at it tonight, the motor should reverse is spin in order to pump out the water. If my idea is correct, apparently the motor never reversing. I guess that the switch (control panel) is not sending the correct signal to the motor. Is their way test the motor and the switch?

Thanks

Save yourself some serious time here and go look up a new timer for your machine. Lord knows after 30 years it could use one :)

the pump belt could be broke or the pump is locked up.

There is a siphon break on this machine. Your internal and external drain hoses connect to it in the rear right corner facing from the front of the machine.
I have found several that will have lint trapped in there preventing the machine from draining.
Remove the screws from the break and check for a lint blockage.

There is a siphon break on this machine.

I will check that. I re-ask the question does the motor spin in different way for pumping out water, and is their way to test it?

Thanks

The motor reverses rotation for pump out. I am reluctant to tell you how "I" test it for proper rotation.

To add more information to this problem. I check all the hoses from end to end and they are clear. Also, what I did put my finger in the pump and turn by hand an feel the pump blades turning. Discover that I could hold the blades from turning with my finger. I am guessing that I might have two problems. One that motor not reversing itself, and two the pump shaft could be broken.

Does anyone know if I can switch wires on the timer to cause the motor to reverse itself. I guessing with the wires switch and that works, I have problem in the timer panel. As far as the pump not sure if it is engage all the time or not.

Thanks

The shaft will turn as I hold blades with my fingers and by turn it by hand.

Blades are stationary & pulley & shaft will turn means pump is bad. Does the tub spin in drain or does it aggitate? If it spins then all you need is the pump.It will spin even if it does not drain.
