buzzing noise
« on: January 02, 2009, 02:31:51 PM »
My 2002 top loading Kenmore Calypso starts to fill then stops filling and buzzes. How do I open up the front to inspect the insides? Prying doesn"t seem to be the way.

Rather than tear into something you know little about yet, perhaps I could suggest another recourse?

The Calypso is gifted with error codes in the event of a failure. Could you report back with what the codes say, please? Also, does this buzzing appear to come from the top area?

My wife washed a large pillow last night. This afternoon when she tried to do another load the code Ld came on(long drain). The owner's manual says to check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. I did this and it is fine.

The buzzing comes from inside the tub area not the control panel

Oh, fun!!  Now we're getting somewhere..

All you  gotta do is pop that pump off there and get the debris out.  You can do this mo' betta with the top up and the front panel removed. There is a Calypso manual on this forum  so I won't bore you with the gory details.  Should be an easy fix, although the 2-piece pump is no longer made...it's all a singular unit today.

I took off the pump for inspection. It turns hard and the plastic splines were worn off. I think the buzzing I was hearing was the motor spining on the spline. I think I'll order a new pump-motor combo. I'll let you know if this fixes the problem.

I just installed the new pump and motor. Works like new. I feel like I saved a couple hundred dollars. Thanks for the help. :)  Do I get another star now?
