Came home from work and the fridge was on the blink.  Neither the fridge or the freezer is working.  Fan motor is running and I heard something clicking.  Removed the back lower cover exposing the compressor and the clicking sound (like a spark) was coming from the component attached to the side of the compressor.  I think this item is the overload relay.  Do I replace this item or could something else be causing it to click.  Joe

It's either a bad Start Relay / Overload , or a bad Compressor....

You could try a new relay/overload but this model had a slew of bad compressors from Embraco during 2002-2003. If the machine is  under 5 years old, the part would be covered under warranty. If not, it's still more economical  to replace a compressor than a $950 refrigerator.

Well, I ordered a new start/overload relay and it finally arrived.  When I removed the old one, the start relay was burnt to a crisp.  It is now up and running.  Thank god it wasn't the compressor.  Thanks for the help.  Maybe I found a new profession, NOT!  I'll stick with Helicopter mechanic stuff.  Joe
