Whirlpool Duet front loader dryer error FP
« on: December 23, 2008, 03:09:35 PM »
Model Number: GEW9260PW1

we had a power outage, so after the power came back on, I tried to start my dryer, but FP came on the screen.   What do I do?  Sears say it will take them 3 weeks to come for a repair and I have 3 small children!!!!!! Help!!

I unplugged, then replugged it. and still the FP shows.  I pressed the cancel button and held it down for 30 seconds and still the FP shows when I try to start it!!!!

Putting exclamation points in your post does not enhance your chances any more or less than if you left them off :)

Sears will always take 3 weeks. Why deal with them to begin with, I ask?

The  FP code means Power Failure, only the WP engineers were dyslexic...sometimes it shows up as FP. If you cannot clear the code by normal means, there are other complications in the machine. I am on the phone with WP tech support buddy as we write...

So I am SOL until a repairman can come???

You know I have always had excellent luck with Sears, until about 2 years ago and then all when to h--- in a hand basket with them.  They are late, they don't bring the right tools, and then they tell you they have to order the part that you already told them you needed when you called in the first place.

We are considering canceling our warranty, because it has done us no good at this point.  However it seems just as soon as a warranty wears out there goes the motor or transmission..... ha ha ha - Murphy Law I guess.

Sears has definitely been removed from my Xmas list :)

I started working there in 1974. They used to be like Maytag, a good place to work because they treated their customers very well. Both of these companys abandoned that practice somewhere around 2001. In fact, when Maytag sold out to Whirlpool in 2006, Sears offered me a position as a Sears tech (again), only I would have to start out as a new employee. I don't know about you, but I thought it ludicrous to go full circle after 34 years only to have NO seniority.

So NO, unlike Sears, with me you are not SOL...I m following up on this diligently and will have a solution for you shortly...stand by.

Okey dokey...here's the skinny:
You did not post a model number. I need that plus the age of the dryer

Oh Rats.....  Murphys law again.  I was on the phone with Sears and they told me I could get a loaner dryer, put me on hold then trasferred me 2 times.... and then told me my warranty doesn't cover the rental (of course it doesn't - Murphys law again!)

However if I use a repair man that is local then my warranty is no good.  What is a Mom to do????  (Local repair man can be here in two days)

I guess I should just cancel my warranty.  What do you think??

Thanks for your speedy responses this is really helpful.

Is it right for me to assume it is like the mother board in a computer??  The dryer doesn't work because the big brain needs to be replaced or reset internally???

 Here's my input-

The problem is a bad User Interface Board, the touch panel. It lists for $228 at some of he sources I have seen, maybe less at others. Nevertheless, you have the following choices:

1) Order the User Interface board yourself and have it installed by a local tech in under 3 weeks, part # 8558704

2) Wait for Sears for 3 weeks and have everything covered (that is unless the idiots do not bring the part with them, then another 3 weeks), but do without laundry all that time?

What would you do?? I know what I would do...cancel my warranty, demand a refund, then start using sites like this the next time you run into trouble. We're always around to help.

And a further note...I apologize if I came off as insensitive regarding the dyslexic comment which I removed.  In my arrogance, I sometimes forget that dyslexia is a common affliction that should not be ridiculed or ignored. If I offended you, I am heartily sorry.

Oh my Goodness, how great are you????

I will use the laundry mat tomorrow and get all that I need done for the holidays, then wait for Sears, get the fix that I need and then cancel the warranty.

I am so sad with Sears.  What happened to customer service now a days........ (I know, I know, just let it go.....)

The information is delicious.  It is important to know your dollars and sense.  You have helped a bunch.

Have a Merry Christmas!!!!  I will be spending Christmas Eve at the Laundry Mat!!!!!!!! ha ha ha ha
