Problems with Washer

Hello,

My washing machine will not spin properly.  I just replaced the coupler and after taking out the old one, I noticed that it was fine.  While holding the lid switch down while the machine should be spinning, I can manually help the drum spin and it will start to, but it never gets any of its usually speed.  

THe clutch looked OK but it is the only thing that appears to make sense now.

The machine drains and agitates ok but it will just not spin properly.

The last load of clothes that we washed had a huge wade of paper and my currently problem undoubtedly has something to do with that.

change the clutch, it is your cheapest option.

remove the agitator, under it is a large nut that secures the inner tub to the drive block, this block has 2 keyways that lock onto the basket drive, these keyways might be stripped and the inner tub could be slipping on the drive block

Thanks for the replies.

I tried taking the agitator off and checking the nut but everything looked fine.  I tried running it through a cycle real quick and I noticed that drum is wicked hard to turn by hand.  Again, I put it on the spin cycle and it would not move on its own but if I started to help it spin, it would start to move.  I ran a quick load and everything went fine except the spin cycle. I think that this has a break, is it possible that it is sticking if so, does it seam logical to be the problem.  With the Holiday I am running out of time for parts.

I also forgot to mention that when it first started acting up, there was not really nasty burning smell.  The smell has mostly gone away but it is still there.

At this point, with the holidays so close, I would try a new clutch first. Sounds like its not releasing the brake properly..no harm in wasting $30 to see....
