Yes, it was the motor reversing relay. The technician said he had not seen anything like it before!

The relay was $30 online. Got charged $80 for it. Another $75 for labor. He spent less than 45 minutes total at the site, but he did have to make two trips as he didn't have the relay with him the first time. Putting the relay back took 10 minutes total.

I am surprised at the mark up on parts - I always knew it was high, but this seems really high. I was almost of the mind to tell him not to come this morning when he called with estimate. But his being the Christmas season, I said whatever...
