Hotpoint water dispenser not working

The water dispenser does not work. I was told by a repair tech to replace the main control board. I replaced the board and thawed out the door with a hair dryer and it worked for about two days. I also put a n new waterfilter in when I changed the control board. He checked the water value and it worked correctly. The frig is 4 years old. The freezer is set on 4.

Now all you have to do is check the temps in the FF section down where the dispenser reservoir sits. If the  FF temps are too  cold the reservoir will freeze.

The freezer temp is 5 degree and the setting is at 2.

The water reservoir is not in the freezer...why would the freezer temp matter?

I had GE come out to fix. The problem is that there is a void in the freezer door and the cold air is freezing the water line. They installed a dispenser water heater behind the dispenser control panel. The part was 63.30 and labor was 45.00. The water started working in about 4 hours. I did call GE and complain about the problem and they waived the serivce call fee and I also called to complain that GE should be liable for the water heater since this is a design flaw. It will go up for review. I post results for those of you with this problem.

They have probably gone as far as they will go for a 4 year old product. You were lucky to get that much concession after all that time.  Insulation voids are common in the industry, as the technique for injecting the liquid catalyst into a hollow cavity to make the polyurethane shell can be tricky. If any traces of oil are still on the  liner or inner cabinet surface, there will be an air void in that spot.

Some of the Maytag side-by sides had this problem at first, causing the shelves in the freezer to fall out when the  liner shrunk from the  voids. After a series of callbacks and replacements they determined the problem was occurring during production. Usually only a few units are affected by this out of several thousand.  You were the "lucky" one
