O.K. Apparently no one on this forum can answer a simple question.  Well, I'll find the answer, but I guess it won't be here.  So sorry!  Apparently you don't understand the question anymore than I do!  And I am new at it.  I am starting to find out there is no true answer to any of it, and one tech or another it doesn't matter,  and there is no real answer, because there are no real technicians, anyhow the term for technician is "Someone who is skilled in the field they work in" But there are no experts on any subject."  Oh well, you gave it half a shot!
Contrary to what you believe there are many Excellent Technicians, however they may not be good teachers.
Now before someone goes off on a tizz, I am speaking from experience. We had a gentleman who was a well seasoned veteran technician apply for a teaching position. After two months of students complaining he did not know anything I sat in on his class.
After class I said to him "Rudy" I know your reputation from when we worked at Carrier Building Services, and the problem is you cannot relate to inexperienced people.
Moral, as a "Master Technician" he was one of the best. As a teacher, he stunk.

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

Why, Icehouse...are you inferring that:

a)  I am not a good teacher?
b) Perhaps I run out of patience too soon and want to strangle some stupid SOB?
c) both
d) neither

Obviously I am good with greenies, since I have helped thousands of them in the past few years on my own site. I don't bear any hard feelings any way you choose to accept me, I am just glad to be in the company of such good, experienced techs. If I get exasperated once in a while, it just means I'm human.

:) I was not signaling out anyone in particular, rather explaining why some people run out of Patience with newbies.
I did not catch on that he was a "internet-troll, as I stink in computers.
I am happy to talk with seasoned veterans as well as newbies.
Putting us down because we did not answer his question the way he wanted was also wrong. Reminds me of a student I had that talked about working for his cousin and before I could stop him he blew out a 5 ton package A/C.
I help any and all and pray others feel the same.

That's a good philosophy Ice, and I feel much the same way. It's a known fact that anyone with a keyboard these days can post a message. Unfortunately there are no Internet cops to corral the idiots and isolate them to their own section of cyberspace where they will be harmless to the  folks who have legitimate concerns and interests. But who am I to pass judgement?

You can only do so much with what you have to work with, bless his heart...

Hell he might not have been a troll. Just a guy who wanted to know why he had a zero reading at the defrost control on his heat pump. I know that window unit heat pumps have a probe running out to the coil and when the temp gets cold enough i just assumed the reversing valve throws it into cooling mode to thaw out the sucker. To me he obviously had a bad defrost board on that unit of his.
May the hinges of our friendship
        never grow rusty.

About the icons: The beer is tip link, if a tech saves ya some money buy em a 6 pack. The small green square=personal message. The green dot is a link to my web page on appliance repair and other general BS I love to post. The letter sends me email.
I love fan letters! LOL
