Washer gets stuck in a prepetual spin cycle and door stays locked

When my Neptune washer gets to the off position in either the Regular or Quick cycle it seems to want to stay operating.  It attempts to spin one direction for a moment stops, then the other direction, stops, etc.  It never actually starts spinning again but I can't turn it off and the door light stays on.  I unplug it and come back a while later and plug it back in and the door light is off and clothes appear to be spun dry with no excess water in tub.

Any idea what might be going on?

If you understand electronics and can follow instructions written on paper, there is a tech sheet in the top control panel which will guide you thru the tests on any component. If the machine is hanging up in the  final cycle, it could range from anything like a bad machine control board to an open  circuit in the off-balance loop. Too many variable to suggest  a course of action until lots of tests  are made.

Do you mean some sort of LCD panel?  This particular machine didn't have those when I bought it.  Anything else you can think of?

True, I don't have much appliance experience but can pull out and replace a known bad component.  The trouble is guessing what has gone bad.  I may start with the timer.  I figure I can replace 2 or 3 parts before I get to what it would cost to have an appliance professional make a housecall.

Yeah, you might do like everyone else and throw parts at it until you find the right one, but that gets expensive and time consuming when you need to wash your thongs. There is a Neptune manual here on the website that will contain what you need to check the machine step by step.
