Kenmore gas valve problem

Kenmore oven stopped working correctly some time ago. Ignitor glows, but gas doesn't flow out quickly enough to ignite, I start to smell gas, but can't hear the flow like I should be able to. If I tap on the gas safety valve, it will flow fine, ignite, get up to temp then shut down, but as soon as the temp goes down, the ignitor comes back on to re-heat, and I need to tap the valve again. I did order a new gas safety valve already, but was curious if there is anything else it could be. Probably should have asked here before buying the valve, but seems to me that is the troublesome part.

usually not the Gas Valve...
usually the Ignitor (they get weak)

The Ignitor must draw about 3 amps in order to open the Gas Valve
(which is in series with the Ignitor)

is there a way to test the ignitor for that, other than just seeing it glow?

I use forums constantly for advice on things, I don't know why I didn't think of using it for this issue before buying the expensive part

If the ignitor is so bright you cannot look at it(like the sun)then it is good. If it is a burnt dull mellow orange then it is weak. In need of replacement. The control is working because the ignitor is working . The gas valve is good because it is allowing for a circuit to fire up the ignitor. The gas bill was paid this month (hopefully). It has to be the ignitor is too weak to open the bi-metal flap within the safety valve. Want to see a neat illusration of how it all works? Read more:

yes it's more of a dull orange, will be replacing this week and taking the valve back, Thanks
