Other members can applaud or smite you.
When they click [applaud] you get + Karma and when they click [smite] you get - Karma.
You don't see the [applaud] and [smite] links under your own name, just under other members name and you can't give yourself Karma.
I just realized my screen name has 5 Karmas.
