tub seal

I have a Maytag washer that recently experienced a malfunction. I investigated the problem and found that a sock had been pulled into the pump. I removed the top of the drum to make sure nothing else was between the two drums but now I can't seem to get the seal on correctly. It wants to fall between the inner and outer tub. I must be putting it on wrong. Help!

Place the rubber seal around the rimof the top cover. Slide it ip on the cover about 2" from the bottom edge. Lower the cover into the tub. Place the ring clamp over the seal and slide it downward until it  can be tightened against the rim of the lower tub half. The idea is to get the steel clamp on both halves of the tub while centering the seal. I find it easier if the seal is lightly lubed with detergent or softener. Don't tighten the clamp until the toop half of the tub has been adjusted down to within 1/2" of the  spinner basket top. We don't want it to rub during spin, but we on't want the  top cover so high that it hits the main top either. There will be a happy medium once you get it in place.

Thank you very much! I've had this Maytag for 20 years and thought for a moment that I would have to replace it. I sure wish they still made them like this one.
