Ice cube maker only making 1/2 size cubes

I have a GE side by side refrigerator.  Recently I have noticed that my ice cubes are only 1/2 the size they should be.  I also have to put a cup under the water dispenser, because water shoots out from there when the ice maker is filling up (if I turn off the ice maker, the water leaking is not a problem).  What could be the issue here?

Maybe you have your wires crossed on the water valve?

It was working great for 7 years and has just recently started doing this.
